SEASONAL LIVING AT ARCADIAN REVIVAL

Magic. Finding a month more awe-inspiring than December is certainly impossible at our home. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a home where my mother made magic year-round, and December was especially a time to be cherished. And with little ones running around here today, I take the responsibility of carrying on that torch very seriously.

From carefully curating music to set the mood of the moment, to filling our home with scents of fresh cedar and fragrant pine and cinnamon, to illuminating corners throughout our home, the month of December provides the ultimate interior sensory experience.

Honoring recipes and ornaments passed down through the generations to create new traditions with each other such as welcoming the winter solstice by illuminating our property with ice globes, every single day of this month seems to be filled with traditions. Even the art form of foraging and bringing in live greens and berries takes on a life of its own. Creating live garlands, wreaths, and swags throughout our home and for others fills the void of not gardening and takes on meaning of its own as the creative energy and loving thoughts become poured into my work.

And while our walls may not be filled with the chaos that exists in our home as it did the month before, we fill our home during the holidays with the love of all of our dear family and friends from afar. To quote Charles Dickens from “What Christmas Means as We Grow Older”, “As we grow older, let us be more thankful that the circle of our Christmas associations and of the lessons that they bring, expands! Let us welcome every one of them, and summon them to take their places by the Christmas hearth.”

And so in December we make a point of sitting back, reflecting, enjoying our time at home and with one another every opportunity that we’re given. We put our feet up near the fire and think of everyone who we love and we fill our hearts and home with the same.
