SEASONAL LIVING AT ARCADIAN REVIVAL

April is a season in and of itself that we’ve anticipated to arrive all winter long. The turn of the calendar to April feels like we're finally being granted permission to go ahead and celebrate the pink and yellows and brighter pastels through florals, food, and decor. The month is a sure sign that the world is soon to come alive and that we are about to slowly emerge from our winter hibernation for good. We bring out our spring jackets, open the windows as we spring clean, replace our bedding with cotton sheets and quilts, and prepare for the last of our indoor projects before the gardens and sunshine summon us to spend our days outdoors.

April also means daffodil season here at Arcadian Revival. While we’re situated a bit further north than many in the United States, April is the month when the first and surest signs of spring take full form in our gardens. Our tulips, hyacinth, myrtle, and daffodils all take the lead in greeting us for the season. The frost still greets us here through the month quite often and our seedlings try their best to remain patient indoors as we fill all of our tabletops to provide the best light to our little plants in the meantime.

April is perhaps the first month of the year where we can curl up outside on the porch with a book, a favorite pastime we’ve been missing since the autumn before. A cup of tea, a sweater, and blanket all make the experience possible.

In the kitchen, we often focus on egg dishes with anything fresh for early spring that we can incorporate into the menu. I love baking up a hummingbird cake this time of year, with whichever ingredients I choose to incorporate depending on my mood and what is available. I also love making a spring pea soup from scratch, serving it chilled in case we experience an unusually warm day, or hot with fresh bread if the air still feels quite cold. Regardless of the weather, spring is in the air and we savor its arrival. We honor each bloom, each warm day, each transformation that makes this season so special.
